Cards for Courage
Summer Gatherings
When I received the call from Sha’twan, it first crossed my mind that it was a sales call or better yet, spam. I quickly realized the opposite. Sha’twan created a foundation in honor of her late daughter - The Mayla Bates Pediatric Cancer Foundation. Recognizing a need to show continued support to children and families facing hard times through the diagnosis of sickle cell or cancer, she now reaches out to the community to create “CARDS FOR COURAGE” to help these families through some tough times.
The second I understood what her request was, I just knew the board and each of our members would love to be part of her cause. I promised her the club would take 50 – 12 packs of cards to write and scheduled three drop off pickup dates. I’m happy to say all 50 were spoken for.
As you can see, everything you need is provided - including a pen. Once I understood my assignment, it took only 25 minutes to write out my cards, add stickers, confetti and then place the cards in their envelopes.
If you didn’t grab a 12 pack during the May meeting, you will have more opportunities in the coming months. Please offer your time to make someone else’s day inspiring.
