Education Month - Scholarship Recipients
Caps off to our 2024 scholarship recipients. It's been said, "Education is our ticket to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today." Our scholarship recipients have prepared themselves in exemplary fashion. I have no doubt they will make a difference in the future.

Plantation Woman's Club - Volunteer of the Year (announced)
~~ Lou Ireland ~~
Let me start off by saying, Congratulations Lou! This honor is long overdue and very deserving.
Here are the reasons Lou Ireland was selected as PWC’s Volunteer of the Year for 2023.
Lou has served as the Club’s Treasurer in 2023 and did an amazing job in that position, as usual. All the Club’s financial information was prepared and available for every meeting and any time the information was asked for. Due to her diligence, our annual audit went smoothly, and no issues were found.
Lou is part of our Policies and Procedures Committee where she hosted meetings at her house and is the sole person to make the updates to the documents once approved. She attended the Royal Easter Egg Hunt City event where our Club was the main sponsor. Lou stood at the gates of the event and handed out event programs to guests that arrived. No doubt she was promoting our Club any chance she got and doing it in the hot sun no less.
Lou was our co-chair for our two big annual events – Volunteer of the Year and Not Your Mama’s Craft Fair. Being co-chair to these events takes an unmeasurable amount of time and Lou didn’t complain or back down from the duties that were expected of the co-chair positions. One event in the spring and the other in fall, Lou worked on preparing for these events consistently throughout the 2023.
Finally with the loss of Gloria Merritt, Lou immediately stepped up when a volunteer was being sought to help the Chair of our Yearbook Committee work on and complete our yearbook on time. Her valuable help, suggestions and input and her proofreading skills were fast and accurate. She not only volunteered for 2023, but she also agreed to stay on as the yearbook co-chair.
Lou is a professional in all areas and made herself available throughout the year serving on many committees as co-chair whenever needed. She is friendly and easy to work with, with her work smarter not harder attitude. Lou is always willing to step up and go above and beyond for this Club.
Thank you, Lou, for all you do, and have done for so many years. Congratulations again.

Heart Health Awareness Walk at the Broward Mall
On Friday, March 22nd, the Broward Mall held a Heart Health Recognition Walk where new members of our Club met up and walked around the mall for heart health awareness. This was a request by Laura Connelly from GFWC Florida for new members. Thank you, ladies for braving the huge rain storm that morning to represent PWC at the walk and thank you new member, Mary Lou Samaras for helping to coordinate this effort.
Royal Easter Egg Hunt - March 30, 2024
Once again, we sponsored the city’s Royal Easter Egg Hunt. The event was held on March 30th at Pop Travers field. It was a beautiful day for the event. Once the whistle was blown it only took less than five minutes for the fields to be stripped. I do not think a group of locusts could have done it faster. A big thanks to Roberta Carraway and Pat Livingston for coming out and assisting with the candy give away.
