Celebrating First Responders
City of Plantation
Our Public Affairs program was on our 1st Responders for Police, Fire and EMS. We also celebrated PWC’s 71 years - Chair: Gloria Merritt; Co Chair: Michelle Moskowitz.
Attending were 58 members, Mayor Lynn Stoner, Council President Nick Sortal, President Pro Tem Denise Horland and Council Member Ron Jacobs.
Police Chief Howard Harrison and Deputy Chief Jim Dourvetakis brought the CUFF MAN that they use to learn “how to hand cuff the bad guys” - a PWC Donation in 2013 for $2,650.
Detective Matt Cochran warned us of several fraud alerts.
1) IRS – watch out for fraud calls saying you owe money to the IRS and to send money to them. The IRS will NEVER call you (if there is any problem, they write you a letter) – HANG UP.
2) Fraudulent calls made to you regarding your Grandchild, Betty, (etc) has been injured in an accident or in a Mexican jail and needs money sent to the caller – HANG UP
3) Don’t let ANYONE into your home that you don’t know, and don’t leave your purse accessible (like on the dining room table or in the basket of grocery store carts).
Bringing their beautiful new Rescue Golf Cart, a PWC donation in 2019 for $15,000, Fire Chief Don Todd, Deputy Chiefs Joel Gordon & Rudy Gabor, Battalion Chiefs Cary Blanchard & Steve Merritt, EMS Lieutenant, Ashley Dunhane and Female Volunteer Firefighter, Blayke DeWalt all attended.
Ashley, Blayke and Cary filled us in on their history and experiences with the Fire Department. Cary is also the liaison officer with our CIP Chair Michelle Moskowitz and provided Fire Department items for our centerpieces that Michelle used for decorations for the tables - loved the huge red hearts &
Valentine chocolates too!
Lunch of Chicken Francaise, baked Ziti, salad, rolls, with pies, cupcakes, cookies and ‘mile high’ chocolate cake were enjoyed immensely.
Many thanks to all our wonderful members who helped make this luncheon so successful.
