May General Meeting - May 14, 2024
Plantation Preserve
Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz presented the Club with a flag that was flown over the Capital building in honor of the club's 75th anniversary. She thanked us for all that the Club has accomplished over those years. As she said a lot can be accomplished by a small but determined group of women. We certainly have such a group. You can be very proud of what we have accomplished.
“This is to certify that the accompanying flag was flown over the United States Capitol on March 1, 2024.
At the request of the Honorable Deborah Wasserman Schultz, Member of Congress, this flag was flown to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Plantation Woman’s Club.”

Plantation Police Department - Scams
The meeting concluded with a very educational presentation by the Plantation Police Department. The information they presented on fraud was very informative, but also kind of scary. If I learned one thing it was not to trust emails and the internet. As we go through our daily routines, we will have to verify everything before we act on requests. For those not at the presentation, Sergeant King told everyone that if you are concerned about an email or call you received, please call the police department, and discuss it with one of the detectives. They would rather spend five minutes talking to us than spend hours taking a report and doing all the necessary follow-up work.
Presentation to the Plantation Volunteer Fire Department
On May 4th, not only did our Club host & present the Volunteer of the Year event, but so did the Fire Department hold its annual Golf Tournament. Our CIP Chair, Michelle Moskowitz was attending the Volunteer of the Year and when called, drove over to the Preserve to present our sponsorship check for $1500. I guess that is as good as being in two places at once. It seemed like May 4th was a day for many events in the City.
Tiger Buck Store - Donations
On behalf of the Tigerettes and myself I sincerely thank each and every one of you for your thoughtful donations we received at our last meeting. I know that we will begin our next school year strong!
I also want to thank each one of our Tigerettes for their time and devotion to our children. I get teary eyed when I watch them enter our "store" in awe and enthusiasm. I truly believe that in some small way we are making a positive impact on their lives. My best to each of you for a wonderful summer break.

Cutting and Sewing Stockings - Plantation Sewing Guild
Thank you, members, for volunteering to cut out 2025 holiday stockings from the paper pattern provided by our local Plantation sewing guild--the same guild that sewed our Boggy Bears. The holiday stockings will be filled with goodies by the American Red Cross and shipped to our troops all over the world so that they get them by the 2025 winter holidays. Guild members both cut and sew the stockings but having them cut beforehand saves a lot of time as the stockings are also cuffed and elasticized at the April sew-off so that they can hold onto hooks and furniture. The stockings you cut over the summer will be collected this September at our general Club meeting and when finished, added to thousands of other Florida crafted stockings.
Strong materials with colorful patterns, both holiday and non-holiday are great choices among your sewing stockpile but please do not use felt or glitter fabric.

Telecommunicators - Thank You Delivery
In April we helped honor the public safety telecommunicators that take our 9-1-1 calls and dispatch police and fire units. These professionals are never seen but are vital to the public safety system in the city. On April 19th we provided lunch for both shifts working that day. Lunch included Lasagna, meatballs, salad, garlic rolls and cake.
They wanted me to pass on a big thank you to the members and tell you they are very appreciative that we always remember them in April. We only had one brave soul let us take a picture of them. That day was pajama day. A day they could dress down. All were in pajamas, and no one wanted pictures.
