September 2021 - General Meeting (In Person)
Making goody bags and home-made cards
for seniors at Covenant Living Care Center
In order to reach out to some of the seniors in our community, at the September meeting we built goody bags for some of the residents at the Covenant Living Care Center. These bags were hand decorated by our members and filled with candy, lotion, hand sanitizer, coloring book, colored pencils and many other items to cheer up the residents.
On the Thursday after the meeting I delivered the bags to the Activity Director Candice Jenks. Having spoken to her earlier she had selected residents that needed cheering up because of either medical conditions or lack of visitation from family and friends. During my visit I had the opportunity to meet Avon, one of the residents who is 93 years young. She told me how the residents would be thrilled to get the bags. It is very hard to be stuck inside and have limited visitation due to COVID protocols. As our conversation continued, I learned that anything that changes the daily routine, even as small as receiving the bags we made, brings great joy to those receiving them. Not only does it give them a small gift, but it lets them know people are thinking of them. Avon did state that she would probably have to hide the candy, as I guess that is the one thing that all the residents love to get. In speaking with Candice, she stated that she would love to have the Club send additional items at the upcoming holidays. She also stated that once the COVID restrictions lower she would love to see our members come by and visit with the residents at the Care Center.
