October General Meeting - 2018
Public Issues
October of 2018 found our Club hosting two candidate forums--one at our regular luncheon and the other in the evening. A record number of candidates are seeking elected office in Plantation with five running for the mayor's position and eight seeking three council seats.
Our members provided a total of 18 questions which were presented to all candidates via e-mail two weeks before the forums so that we could have some idea of how the contenders were thinking about areas of interest to members in particular.
Beverly Payne, Parliamentarian, was our time keeper and did an excellent job of making sure all candidates stayed within the two-minute framework for their responses.
Ann Ebbert, our sergeant-at-arms, greeted our candidates at the door and made sure they were made to feel welcome.
Although we were not able to have all candidates answer all of our questions due to time restraints, we did get a good idea of their knowledge about many areas of interest and concern.
The evening meeting attracted many members of the public as well as our Club members to Deicke Auditorium.
