Jacki Rodriguez single-handedly dazzled the kids once again with her “trunk” at the City’s Trunk or Treat event held at Central Park. Her trunk displayed a Jurassic Park theme. Lots of fun for the thousands of the children who stopped by for pictures and candy. You can see Jacki’s costume where she’s riding a dinosaur. It looks great, Jacki! What an amazing job representing our Club at this annual event. Looking forward to next year’s creative theme! |

Tiger Buck Store Update - Thank You GFWC PWC
Another school year has started at Plantation Elementary School. The Tiger Buck Store was open and running in September, with all the donations that our club received from its members, thank you very much!
All the students and teachers were very happy to see us and enjoyed using their Tiger Bucks, some saving them for some special items they see and want. The school has 603 students this year and they all know that our club is responsible for the store and are very appreciative.
We will be open Oct 16th & 23rd from 8:30AM to 1:30PM and would like to have some new faces volunteering a little bit of time, it really is fun and the children are so happy to see us.
Please let me know if you will be able to come. There is an ongoing list of supplies needed: notebook filler paper, composition books & mechanical pencils are some of the popular items. If you have any donations please bring them to next meeting or give me a call and I will pick them up.
We will have our annual toy drive in December at the Holiday Luncheon, please bring any small toy, unwrapped, so the students can buy them at the Tiger Buck Store.

PWC continues to give back to our community by providing funds for special projects. At the September meeting members approved the following funds.
** The Fountain at City Hall: Over the years, PWC has provided the money for all of the fountains that grace our beautiful city. Unfortunately, this year, the fountain in front of City Hall needed to be repaired. Kudos to Steve Rodgers, head of Public Works who completed the repairs under the projected budget! A check in the amount of $7229.55 will be presented to the City.

PWC LOVE Delivered to Our First Responders
February 2019
After the February meeting, Diecke Auditorium turned into a cookie factory! We asked members to bring undecorated cookies to the meeting. Boy, we PWC ladies came through big time!
Decorating tables were set up, but with all of the “decorators” staying to help we had to keep setting up more tables.
We had red, pink, white cookie icings, edible spray colors in silver, gold and red, gold glitter dust and bottles and bottles and bottles and bottles of sprinkles, decorating sugar and jimmies.
In 2 hours we decorated almost 700 cookies. No that is not a typo as you can see from the pictures. That translated to 24 trays of cookies piled high for our First Responders!
But the fun didn’t end there. On Tuesday and Wednesday, we delivered the trays to the Plantation stations: 6 Fire Stations, Police Station and the Communications Center. There were smiles all around and they all thanked PWC for spreading the “love”. (No picture at Station 1 - they were out on a call!)
A special thanks goes out to our “adopted PWC member”, Ralph Merritt, for not only taking photos, but also baking and decorating brownies and some cookies, helping wrap the trays and create perfect bows!!!
Another thanks goes out to Lynn Braden, who not only baked cookies but also sent out an email blast to the Police and the City spreading the news about the PWC cookie project.

Donation in Memory of Vince "Sonny" Hinde
Our Club was very fortunate to have many people donate funds in memory of Pat Hinde's husband, Vince. We were in need of a new, easily moved dish cart for the kitchen storage room and Pat graciously agreed that equipment such as this was something that her husband would have approved of.
Thus "Sonny's Cart" was dedicated with a gold seal in November indicating that it had been purchased in loving memory to honor Vince "Sonny" Hinde. Although the cart stays primarily in the kitchen, the bright golden seal will continue to remind everyone who goes into the area of this thoughtful gift.

Aqua-Lung Rapid Diver System
Feb 17, 2016….Article in Sun Sentinel Newspaper
Seconds are precious when rescuers are trying to save people from a vehicle in a canal or lake and now Plantation's volunteer firefighters are equipped to save some time.
For those involved in the rescue there's the tanks, the air-filled vest to maintain buoyancy, the mask, fins, gloves, snorkel, rope for a lifeline. The suiting up can take three to five minutes.
But with the new equipment that's part of the official dive team ensemble, it takes 30 seconds to a minute to suit up, minus the gloves, officials say.
"The difference is it's one piece and it goes on in one motion," said Plantation Fire Department spokesman Joel Gordon. Firefighters can "dress quickly [and] have what they need all at once."
The equipment is called the Aqua-Lung Rapid Diver System, and this month the city purchased five sets that cost $1,750 each.
The Plantation Women's Club donated the money.
Gordon said time is of the essence in these situations and the diver "throws it over the head, clips one belt and is ready to go." "When a vehicle goes into the water it's very disorienting to the occupants of the vehicle," he said. "It's like hitting a brick wall at whatever speed you're going."
The clock starts ticking before the passengers stop breathing. "Minutes are crucial," he said.
"Any diver knows how complicated it is to put on dive gear," said Pete Gannon, Dive Team Leader and president of Dive Rescue International.
"It can be very time consuming. And when you're doing it in a hurry you tend to forget things. This outfit contains everything. There's no need to second guess yourself," Gannon said.
