"Day of Service"
GFWC Florida - Day of Service
As a GFWC Woman’s Club project, it was a no brainer when they asked each club to celebrate a day of service during the month of September.
F.L.I.T.E. came to mind immediately. As you know, several years ago in memory of Marlene Lee, one of our beloved members, I
spear-headed a Health & Wellness program to offer our club an opportunity to help young adults thru the F.L.I.T.E. Program. Our guest visitors, Ms. Felicia and Ms. Sharonda were truly thankful for our large donation. We have always made miracles happen when called upon.
In addition to the non-perishable supplies, we were also able to donate the following to a 5-session cooking class for 20 young adults. 20 microwaves, coffee pots, rice cookers, frying pans, measuring glasses, mini measuring cups, spatulas, serving spoons with & without holes, and can openers.
It took every bit of 3 SUVs to squeeze, and squeeze some more, to make sure they had everything.
I did warn them, even one of the gentlemen questioned going back to get a bigger truck! Now that’s what I call “show boating” and doing the right thing!
Thank you to you all. We are a force to be reckoned with when we band as a team.

Boggy Bears and Afghan Donations
Besides the unbearable jokes, bear stuffing was great fun with representatives from Coral Springs, West Broward and Plantation gathering at the Plantation Community Center on August 14th to stuff the Boggy Creek bears that will be given to Jena Staly, Boggy Creek State Coordinator, at the September convention.
Bear stuffers were Teri Siddiq (West Broward), Carol Johnson (Coral Springs), Michelle Moskowitz, Nancy Dzoba and Helen Ackerman (Plantation). Stuffing instructions were provided by Yvonne Austin, President of the Plantation Sewing Guild.
Twenty hand-made afghans were created by PWC club members Renee Flores and Karinne Bernstein to accompany the boggy bears on their trip to the Orlando convention.
Thank you to the ladies of Coral Springs and Deerfield Beach for cutting patterns last November. District 13 thanks the following members of the Plantation Sewing Guild for their expertise in sewing the bears together: Yvonne Austin, Gillian Cullin, Linda Lawton, Maureen DeGrasse and Helen Ackerman.
Helen Ackerman, District 13 Director

Broaches, NOT Roaches - Thank You
I was very happy with the amount of thank you’s that were placed in our box during the September's general meeting. I think we are finally getting the hang of it!
Septembers thank yous are the following:
- · To Olga Nelson, Thank you for taking care of your friend Noela. It is very refreshing to see such friendship
- · To Connie Seddon, Thank you taking an picking me up from my two eye surgeries. From Pat Giovannetti
- · To Karinne Bernstein, Dear Karinne, Your thoughtful gift given to our board members was a constant item on hand this summer when I was homebound with the big “S”. What a joy your soft comfy scarf was as I was constantly cold! (Hard to believe considering the hot steaminess outside.) It remains attached to my favorite wing-back chair if not around my neck. Bless angels like you – your kind and beautiful spirit lights up our world! Love and hugs. From Eirene Stansbury. P.S. I can’t forget my favorite soup bowls at every meal. I couldn’t eat solid food for weeks.
Remember: BROACHES not roaches! This is a monthly program. Have your thank you’s ready!!
